We make useful parts of dinner ahead—sauces, seasonings, and other Head Starts—so the work moves earlier and the dinner decision stays with the day you’re having.
That idea now stretches from the kitchen counter into My Kitchen. We prepare what helps and share recipes in digital editions and books—different formats for the same useful method—so comforting, genuinely good food feels possible even when the week has other plans.
But the food is still only part of it. The real point is the people around the table: breaking bread, swapping stories, laughing too loudly, and lingering longer than intended.

Behind the book
Danielle Malachi is the author of Suspiciously Good for a Tuesday. The book began in our family kitchen. With five grade-school children who have different tastes, sports and music lessons on the calendar, and three cats underfoot, dinner was often a moving target. We needed a dependable way to cook well without choosing every meal days in advance. Boxed macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers and fries, and instant noodles all have their place, but we wanted more options on an ordinary weeknight.
A meal plan made on Sunday often no longer fit by Wednesday. Food is expensive, and we were tired of watching good ingredients go to waste when plans or appetites changed. We began preparing sauces, seasonings, and other useful parts of dinner ahead of time, then choosing the meal when we knew what the evening called for. That became the Head Start Kitchen: move the work earlier, keep the decision flexible, and use what you’ve already made.
Our printed recipes got stained, torn, lost, or buried at the back of a drawer. Just as important were the notes in their margins: what we changed, what worked, and what we wanted to make again. We built the digital edition and My Kitchen so recipes are easier to find and those notes can stay with them. The printed book still has a place on the counter; its matching digital edition comes with it.
